It’s no secret that I really fucking love Jenny Lewis. Rilo Kiley has been one of my favorite bands since I was in high school. Jenny’s solo stuff is great. The Watson Twins are nice ladies with beautiful voices who are also nice friends (also very tall, and good accessorizers). So: when I got an email announcing the Rabbit Fur Coat 10th Anniversary Tour, I totally lost my shit. A little.
It was something to look forward to in the midst of a difficult transition. I don’t really miss New York, but a move is a challenge on its own and—this seems counterintuitive to me—learning to live instead of just surviving hasn’t been easy. There are so many good things: having a car! a fridge full of groceries! this puppy that looks like a giant dog but is still, in fact, a puppy! more space! Also: going to see a show isn’t a totally infuriating shitfest. Bonus!
And this show—man, this is a show I’ve wanted to see for a decade. When Rabbit Fur Coat was released in 2006, I lived in the very tip of east Tennessee, and that wasn’t a stop many bands made. A good show always required a roadtrip: Asheville (1 hour) or Atlanta (5 hours). Plus, I was dead broke, so I missed the first go round altogether.
Alas! Not this time, my friends, and I had my camera on me to document the magic. I’m going to stop talking now so you can get ya scroll on.
