Neil Gaiman at BAM | Brooklyn Event Photography

I discovered Neil Gaiman when I was 15 years old. I was a budding, curious Tori Amos fan wondering who the hell this Neil was that she kept referencing in her songs. I read Neverwhere first, then Stardust, and fell madly in love. Beyond being an amazing writer, he’s equally astute at the art of being a human being. He once helped me raise funds for a sick family member, and this was pre-Kickstarter crowdfunding craze. That’s just the tip of the iceberg.

All this to say that, when a friend invited me to the book release event for his newest novel, The Ocean at the End of the Lane, I jumped on it. Neil’s illustrious wife, Amanda Palmer (whom I’m also a huge fan of), was on-hand as a surprise guest, and even performed a new song. Check out a few photos from the event, as well as a video of Amanda’s new song, below (I have shoddy video skills, but I’m working on that).
